Lego has announced that their next big car set will be a classic Fiat 500. A bit unexpected, but I’m all for it! I love old microcars, and how can you not like these adorable things? This has instantly become my favorite Lego car set.
It is scheduled to go on sale tomorrow and will retail for $89.99. I’ve been thinking about buying one of Lego’s large car sets for a while now but couldn’t decide which one I like most. Not anymore; it’s the 500. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go rummage a round under some couch cushions for spare change. Sooner or later, I’m gonna make this thing mine.

That would go great with my Lego Mini! I hope they are on the same scale.

Somebody posted this earlier! I really want to pick it up too! :D
If you want something cheaper, there is a company called Cobi that sells Lego-compatible brick sets...they are Poland-based, so make some cool little models of some awesome Polish/Eastern European cars like the Trabant, FIAT 126p, etc!

Sometimes-Oppo Borsuq has sent me two of them as part of our annual ‘Snack/Gift Exchange’ - a FIAT 126p ST and an FSO Polonez! :D
I REALLY want the
Trabant with camper trailer/caravan model
sometime...

My feelings exactly. If I had $90 in my “fun money” pile, I’d be spending them on this. But buying an electric guitar recently basically determined that I won’t be buying anything fun for probably several months at least ...
It is a darn fun guitar, though.

As I recall, Lego usually builds these to the scale of whatever wheels they think best suit the car, which means that none of them are actually built to exactly the same scale. Not intentionally, anyway. However, the wheels on this Fiat 500 are the same diameter as the ones on the Lego Mini (and the VW bus, Ferrari F40, London bus...) , and the real Mini and Fiat 500 are similarly sized , so they’re probably close enough to the same scale that they’d look fine displayed next to each other.
